Two held after body found in Bandon river
Gardaí have launched an investigation following the death of a man in west Cork.
The 27-year-old’s body was pulled from the River Bandon in Bandon late last night.
A man and a woman, both aged in their 30s, were arrested a short time later at the Bridge House apartment complex in the town.
It is believed there had been a party in the apartment earlier where a row broke out and the man was assaulted before being thrown into the water.
The dead man is understood to be from the area.
Gardaí said officers recovered his body from the water at about 11pm after an emergency call raised the alarm.
Two crime scenes have been sealed off as part of the investigation, the river banks near where the man was found and the apartment were the arrests were made.
Gardai have appealed for anyone who may have been in the Bandon bridge area between 10.30pm and 11.15pm to contact them on 023-8852200, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or via any garda station.
The man and woman were detained under section four of the Criminal Justice Act. They are being questioned in Bandon garda station.
Forensic examinations, including a post-mortem examination at Cork University Hospital, have been arranged for later today.
