Govt targets quangos as part of public sector reform
The Government is considering abolishing, merging or rationalising more than 20 quangos next year as part of plans to reform the public service.
Government ministers are meeting tomorrow to consider the move and to reaffirm plans to scrap around 30 other agencies which had been previously earmarked.
They will also examine a list of other quangos which could be scrapped in the future.
Among the proposals are that the Irish Sports Council should be incorporated back into the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and that the National Library and National Museum will share services in the future.
