Two women have been killed in separate car crashes in Co Cork.

A 37-year-old female pedestrian was killed when she was struck by a vehicle on the Cork to Carrigaline road at Carr's Hill at 2.30am this morning.

The road remains closed pending a technical examination. Anyone with information is asked to contact Togher Garda station on 021 4947120, or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Elsewhere a 22-year-old woman was killed when her car collided with another vehicle at the Ballyclough junction on the Mallow to Killarney road at about 8pm last night.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A mother and her three children who were in the other car have been taken to Cork University Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.

Garda forensic experts are at the scene and any witnesses to the crash are asked to come forward.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are continuing to investigate a fatal accident in Co. Mayo yesterday morning which killed a 25-year-old man.
