President Higgins lays Remembrance Sunday wreath

President Michael D. Higgins attended his first official ceremony as Uachtaráin na hÉireann this afternoon.

President Michael D. Higgins attended his first official ceremony as Uachtaráin na hÉireann this afternoon.

For his first engagement, President Higgins laid a wreath for Remembrance Sunday at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.

Mr. Higgins was received by the Very Reverend Robert McCarthy, Dean and Ordinary of the Cathedral.

In attendance were the British Ambassador to Ireland Mr. Julian King, and US Ambassador, Dan Rooney.

Journalist and Military historian Kevin Myers gave the address in which he commemorated the Irish Defence Forces record in battle for European freedom.
