Group to protest against use of Shannon Airport by US troops
Several members of American group Veterans for Peace will take part in a protest this afternoon against the use of Shannon Airport by the US military.
The monthly vigil is calling for the Government to stop facilitating the passage of about 600 US troops a day through the airport to Iraq or Afghanistan.
US army veteran Gerry Condon is among those who believe Shannon should not be used to ferry troops to war, or for CIA rendition flights.
He is determined to spread the campaign to protect Irish neutrality to Irish Americans in the US.
"I'm sure a lot of Irish Americans in the US, as well as American veterans, will want to do whatever they can to lend their support to the Irish people who are trying to end this abuse of Shannon Airport and this abuse of Irish neutrality," he said.
