Met Eireann has said there are no indications so far of any severe weather this winter.

Weather forecaster Gerald Fleming said there is "nothing to indicate" another winter of arctic conditions ahead.

Heavy snow and ice caused chaos around the country last year and the previous year, but the Government has said preparations are in place to deal with a repeat of the conditions.

The Task Force on Emergency Planning is launching a 'Winter Ready' information campaign today to offer practical advice. It can be found on the winterready.ie website.

Up to €16m has also been spent buying up to 200,000 tonnes of salt, double the supply of last year, while Irish airports have invested €7m.
