Mother jailed over sexual exploitation of schoolgirl

A 39-year-old mother of three has been jailed for two years over the sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl.

Remilekun Thomas who is originally from Nigeria but with an address at Nangor Lane, Dublin, was paid money by a man who had sex with the schoolgirl in May 2008.

The court heard on at least six occasions, a 60-year-old man paid Remilekun Thomas to have sex with the 15-year-old schoolgirl.

Usually the price was €50 but he paid €100 on one occasion. The accused kept all the money bar €10, which she handed over to the victim.

Judge Patrick McCartan said a tragic subplot to the case was that the man apparently took his own life within three days of the matter coming to garda attention.

He described the offences as a very serious exploitation of a very young girl for gain and said the money went towards drugs and alcohol.

He noted that the accused was herself a mother but that her children were now in care.
