100 MBNA jobs to go in Leitrim
Bank of America has announced the loss of 100 jobs at its credit card division MBNA in Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim.
The company said that where possible, the reductions would be made through a voluntary redundancy programme.
In August the bank said that it was selling its credit card business in Ireland and the UK, prompting fears for the future of its 750 employees.
Today the bank announced that a total of 250 jobs are to be lost across the Europe card business, with 100 of these positions in Carrick on Shannon and 150 in the UK
In a statement to Shannonside News the company said the vast majority of the roles were in its collections area, which currently support the UK card business.
Bank of America's Europe card executive Ian O'Doherty said while difficult , the cuts are vital in the current operating environment the company finds itself in.
It is understood negotiations are continuing to find a suitable buyer for the MBNA business and save the remaining 650 jobs in Carrick on Shannon.
