Murder accused woman awaits book of evidence

A woman accused of the murder of a man, who died following a stabbing in Galway, today consented to being remanded in custody for another two weeks pending completion of a book of evidence.

Maura Thornton (aged 30) with an address at Upper Salthill, Galway, had been charged in August with murdering Kevin Joyce (agedc 59), a Co Mayo native, at an apartment in Salthill on July 31.

A post-mortem carried out on Mr Joyce’s body revealed he had been stabbed several times.

Ms Thornton appeared again at Dublin District Court today where Judge Miriam Malone remanded her further to appear again on November 15 next.

Her case has been listed for mention on that date for the court to learn when the State will have the book of evidence completed.

The accused, who was dressed in a black tracksuit, remained silent during the brief hearing. Her solicitor told the court that his client consented to her case being put back for another two weeks.

When originally charged, her reply to caution was: “May he rest in peace”.
