A 33-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with a house fire in Co Roscommon in which a five-year-old girl died.

A 33-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with a house fire in Co Roscommon in which a five-year-old girl died.

John Lynch, with an address at Church View in Boyle, was charged with committing arson at a house on Termon Road in Boyle on October 3.

The court heard that in reply to the charge John Lynch said he did not mean to hurt anyone and he was deeply sorry.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court in Castlerea tomorrow.

A large crowd jeered and heckled as the accused man was leaving Boyle District Court this morning.
