50% surge in demand for services of older persons' charity ALONE
Older persons' charity ALONE has reported a 50% surge in demand for its services in 2010.
In its annual report for last year, the charity said its volunteers encounter older people every week who are living in sub-standard housing conditions, suffering with physical ill-health or disability and mental health issues, in debt or poverty and who are struggling to make ends meet on reducing state payments.
