Clontarf residents to protest against flood-defence scheme

Clontarf residents are staging a public protest at 3pm today against controversial plans for a flood defence scheme on the seafront.

The proposed nine-foot-high embankment would extend for three kilometres along the Clontarf Road, from Alfie Byrne Road to the Bull Wall, blocking views of the sea.

The Clontarf Residents Association will be raising their concerns with officials from Dublin City Council next Friday.

Work on the project is expected to begin early next year.

Chairperson Deirdre Tobin said the scheme was "just a disaster for the area, an absolute disaster".

Today's protest is at the wooden bridge in Clontarf.
