Man charged in connection with fatal Roscommon fire

A 33-year-old man has been charged in connection with an arson attack in which a five-year-old girl died.

A 33-year-old man has been charged in connection with an arson attack in which a five-year-old girl died.

Gardaí said the man will be held overnight and brought before Ballinasloe District Court in the morning.

Mari Connolly-Keane died after a fire broke out in her father Richard’s house in Boyle, Co Roscommon, on October 3.

The youngster was found dead in an upstairs bedroom after the blaze ripped through the terraced home in the middle of the night.

Her father had been looking after her and her two sisters, Lauren, eight, and Naomi, six, who jumped to safety from a roof at the back of the property.

Meanwhile a middle-aged woman remains in garda custody in relation to the incident.

The woman, in her 50s, is being questioned at Boyle under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

She was the fourth person to be arrested.
