Dunnes Stores has commenced its' High Court challenge against a tax assessment of €36.4m arising out of the levy for plastic shopping bags.

The firm is challenging the validity of the regulations imposing the plastic bag levy after Revenue Commissioners severed Dunnes with a tax assessments in November 2009, covering a four-year period from 2004-2008, over alleged uncollected and due taxes arising from the levy.
