SIPTU threatens industrial action over pension move

The country's largest workers union, SIPTU, has threatened industrial action to preserve pension schemes.

At the union's Biennial Conference in Ennis, County Clare, senior representatives made it clear that members will resist any attempt to make workers pay for the recently introduced pension levy.

SIPTU said it would also fight any attempt by the pensions industry to impose a "funding standard" on Defined Benefit Schemes, which the union said would cause the collapse of more than 500,000 pension schemes.
