French police begin du Plantier investigation in Cork
French police say they are confident that they can make progress in the investigation into the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.
An investigating team from Paris has been briefed on the case by Gardaà at Bandon Garda Station ahead of conducting interviews and re-examining the forensic evidence from the case.
Ms du Plantier was beaten to death at the laneway to her West Cork holiday home near Schull in 1996.
No-one has ever been charged with her murder.
Eric Battesti, a police liaison officer with the French Embassy, said: "Yes we are confident - we are not quite sure about the outcome.
"But we will do our utmost to shed light and discover the killer of Sophie Toscan du Plantier."
