Funeral of murdered publican to take place

The funeral will take place today of John Kenny, who was murdered in Co Galway last weekend.

The body of the 56-year-old school teacher and part-time publican was found in his pub in Oughterard last Sunday.

Post mortem results found he died of a violent death.

One man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the investigation. He must be either charged or released by 9pm tonight.

Mr Kenny's funeral Mass will take place in Oughterard at noon and will be followed by burial in Kilcummin cemetery.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughter Gillian, brothers Jim and Aidan, and sisters Mary Kenny-Kelly and Mary Moynihan.
