Setback for Norris as FG Councillors block nomination

There has been another setback for Senator David Norris' Presidential bid after he failed to secure a nomination from South Dublin County Council this evening.

The decision by SDCC has come as somewhat of a surprise, many had thought it would be a straightforward victory for Senator Norris.

However, Fine Gael Councillors decided not to abstain as they have done on other authorities, meaning they blocked the nomination by 12 votes to 11.

Earlier today Senator Norris won the support of Laois County Council, adding to Fingal which he secured last week.

Senator Norris also lost out in Carlow today, but the local authority gave the nod to Dana Rosemary Scallon.

The 'All Kinds of Everything' singer went on to get the backing of Roscommon County Council after a Fianna Fáil Councillor nominated her.
