Couple found dead in burnt-out car

The bodies of a couple have been recovered from a burnt-out car in the North, police said today.

The emergency services were alerted after a neighbour heard an explosion in a field off Green Road, Lisburn, Co Antrim, where a vehicle was in flames.

Police said they were not treating the deaths last night as suspicious. Post-mortem examinations are to be carried out and a coroner’s inquest will be held later.

It is understood the the man and woman who died were in their mid-50s and lived locally. A gas container was discovered inside the car.
