Motorists are being advised to drive with extra care this morning as Hurricane Katia continues to batter parts of Ireland.

Winds of up to 130km per hour are being forecast for today with the west and north of the country the worst effected.

In Kildare a tree is reportedly blocking the Clane to Allenwood Road near Coill Dubh and motorists are being urged to approach the area with care.

Those travelling in high sided vehicles are also being advised to be extra vigilant.

Irish Ferries has cancelled its swift sailing from Dublin to Holyhead.

P&O Ferries has cancelled its fast craft sailing while its conventional sailings will run as normal.
