Credit Union granted injunction against dismissal

The manager of a Credit Union in Co Cork has been granted a temporary injunction preventing his dismissal regarding allegations of bullying.

The court heard that Thomas Martin, who runs the Credit Union on Strand Street in Kanturk, was the subject of complaints from five junior employees.

The court heard that Credit Union manager Martin was surprised to hear about the complaints as he felt he had always had a professional relationship with staff and customers.

His lawyers told the court that because of the investigative procedure adopted he received information about the bullying allegations in a 'drip-drip' fashion.

They say Mr Martin was not furnished with witness statements but instead given a summary of what they contained.

This said his lawyers stopped him from asserting his right to confront and cross examine his accusers at a disciplinary hearing.

Mr Justice Charlton granted a temporary injunction preventing the manager's dismissal, as this he noted could be catastrophic for Mr Martin.
