Mater Hospital asked to review patient consent procedure
A coroner is to ask the Mater Hospital to review its patient consent procedure after a 61-year-old Dublin woman with lung cancer died following a biopsy.
The inquest heard that Alice Doyle from North Strand suffered severe blood loss following the bronchoscopy on August 5 last year, which was carried out to evaluate the tumour on her lung.
Dr Brian McCullough told the court that the risk of a severe bleed like this was extremely rare but in hindsight he would have outlined this risk and he said his practice has since changed.
