96,000 drivers receive penalty points in first seven months of year

The number of drivers getting penalty points for speeding is on the increase, with figures for this year expected to surpass the numbers caught speeding in 2010.

It is thought the rise is linked to the introduction of more than 600 privately operated speed cameras around the country.
