Woman appears in court on murder charge

A 30-year-old woman has appeared in court in Galway charged with the murder of a man in Salthill over the weekend.

The body of the man - who has been named locally as 59-year-old Kevin Joyce - was discovered at an apartment complex on Sunday night.

It is understood Mr Joyce - who was originally from Co. Mayo - had been stabbed.

Maura Thornton of Apartment 1, 183 Upper Salthill was remanded in custody to appear in court again next Tuesday, August 9.

She replied to the charge 'May he rest in peace'.

Free legal aid was granted and the Judge directed that all appropriate medical and psychiatric assessments and/or treatment be given.
