Drogheda man convicted of sexual assault and rape

A Drogheda man has been convicted of sexually assaulting one woman and raping another less than two hours later.

Twenty-seven-year-old Christopher Farrell, of Rathmullen Park in Drogheda, offered the first woman a lift home after she had been on a night out.

She awoke to him sexually assaulting her in the car which had been parked in a field.

After he dropped her home he returned to town, offered the second woman a lift, and raped her after parking his car down a country lane before also driving her home.

The jury reached its verdict after two and a half hours of deliberation on day nine of his trial.

Mr Justice Sheehan ordered that Farrell be registered as a sex offender and adjourned sentencing until October so a probation report can be prepared.
