Kilkenny nursing home closed over safety fears

A private nursing home in Co. Kilkenny has been ordered to shut temporarily, amid serious concerns over patient safety.

HIQA secured an interim order from Carlow District Court against Avondale Nursing Home in Callan which means the business is currently deregistered and the HSE has been instructed to take over the running of the facility.

All 12 residents are being transferred to other accomodation.

The owners now have 28 days if they wish to challenge the court order.
