Two killed in Monaghan road accidents

A man died in a road crash in Co Monaghan in the early hours of this morning.

A man died in a road crash in Co Monaghan in the early hours of this morning.

The single-car crash happened on the Churchill Road at Drumakil, Castleblaney between midnight and 12.30am.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was the driver of a van which entered Lough Muckno. His body was recovered from the lake just after 9am this morning by divers from Monaghan Sub-Aqua Club..

The crash is the second road fatality in Monaghan in the last 24 hours.

A pedestrian in his 30s died after he was hit by a car on the road between Castleblaney and Ballybay shortly before midnight last night.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital and a Garda investigation is underway.
