Group to continue protest against Roscommon A&E closure

The Roscommon Hospital Action Group have said they will continue to fight to keep the emergency department open at their local hospital.

Last night, the Health Minister James Reilly confirmed that an urgent care centre will replace the A&E department at Roscommon County Hospital from this Monday.

For the first month, it will operate for 24 hours and will be staffed by non-consultant hospital doctors, supervised by an emergency consultant from Galway.

However, this service will only be available from 8am until 8pm from mid-August.

A number of protests are taking place in Roscommon Town today and in Swinford in Co. Mayo, where the Taoiseach is attending an official engagement.
