The Government is to review the case for a north/south electricity interconnector.

An international expert commission will be established to review the cost of the project with a view to reporting back within six months.

The planned operation would involve the undergrounding of power lines between counties Meath and Tyrone.

The Minister for Energy, Pat Rabitte, has said he will finalise and announce the composition of the three-person expert Commission within the next few days.
