It is thought the remains, found at Ballinskelligs, could be those of missing man James Brennan.

Fifty-six-year-old James Brennan, who is from Ballinskelligs, went missing from his home more than a week ago.

Search teams had been looking for him for the past number of days and the Coastguard helicoptor joined the effort yesterday morning.

At around 3pm yesterday, the body of a man was discovered in marshy ground near the beach. Gardaí have not yet confirmed the man's identity.

A post mortem is being conducted by the assistant state pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster at Kerry General Hospital this morning.
