Taoiseach: 'Not good practice' for DAA boss to be on AIB pay committee
The Taoiseach has said it is not good practice for the chief executive of the Dublin Airport Authority to remain on the remuneration committee of AIB bank.
Declan Collier was forced into giving up his €100,000 bonus after a high profile dispute between the board of the DAA and the Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar last week.
In the Dáil, the Taoiseach said the Government was now reviewing the remuneration of all semi-state bosses with a view to ending the bonus culture.
Independent TD Shane Ross said it was outrageous that Mr Collier, who was at the centre of a pay row, would sit on the board of a bank which makes recommendations on the remuneration of others.
"Is it not absurd that somebody who is involved in a controversy of this sort for his own remuneration should be deciding on the remuneration of those in the banks for which the state has responsibility?" asked Deputy Ross.
The Taoiseach responded: "(It is) certainly not good practice…I don’t want to appear to be vindictive about this,…but you cannot have a situation like Minister Varadkar was confronted with last week."
