Dublin Zoo has welcomed its latest new arrival, a white crowned mangabey monkey named Sunyani after a region in Ghana where it is found in the wild.

“We are particularly proud of the new arrival as it is the first second-generation birth among our group of mangabeys,” said zoo spokesperson Helen Clarke-Bennet.

Keepers do not yet know if the newborn is a boy or a girl.

White crowned mangabeys are endangered in the wild and their numbers are rapidly declining. Dublin Zoo is one of only 12 zoos in Europe participating in a breeding programme.
