Howlin announces pay caps for public sector CEOs
The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Brendan Howlin, has announced pay ceilings for CEOs of semi-State companies and senior public sector posts.
Mr Howlin said the pay ceilings are being introduced in light of the ongoing severe economic conditions.
The new pay caps, which will apply to new appointments, of €200,000 will be applied to higher positions across the public service
A general pay ceiling of €250,000 will apply for future appointments to CEO posts within commercial State companies.
Although these new pay caps are in place for new appointments only, the Government said it will also seek voluntary waivers of salary of 15%, or by a lesser amount, if the application of the full 15% reduction would bring the salary levels of such individuals to below the proposed pay ceilings.
Minister Howlin will now bring forward new legislation to bring into effect these new pay caps.
