A consultant physician and cardiologist at Portiuncla Hospital in Ballinasloe Dr John Barton has said that there will have to be major changes at smaller hospitals in Ireland.

It is due to a chronic shortage of non-consultant hospital doctors after July 11 - the date when doctors are rotated between posts.
