Two people have died in separate road accidents in counties Wicklow and Kerry last night.

A 41-year-old man was killed when the car he was driving and another car were in collision on the N81 at Crosschapel near Blessington just after 8.30pm last night.

The other driver is being treated at Naas General Hospital in Co Kildare suffering from minor injuries.

In Co Kerry, a woman in her 70s was killed in another two-car collision on the Castlemaine to Firies road (R561) shortly at approximately 10.45pm last night.

A female, 75-year-old passenger in one of the cars was seriously injured in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers were also injured and were taken to Tralee General Hospital. Their injuries were described as serious but stable.

Gardaí in Wicklow and Kerry have sealed off both roads this morning and are appealing for witnesses.
