Dáil approves Bill to raise retirement age

Legislation to raise the pension age to 68 and to reverse the cut in the national minimum wage has been passed through the Dáil.

The Social Welfare and Pensions Bill was rushed through, despite objections from the Opposition.

The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said the Government was fast-tracking the legislation in order to meet a commitment to restore the minimum wage to its former level by July 1.
