Naughten: Plan to reduce Roscommon A&E hours 'unacceptable'

Fine Gael's Denis Naughten has today branded a proposal to reduce Accident and Emergency hours at Roscommon Hospital as "totally unacceptable".

Mr Naughten said that he will meet with the Health Minister James Reilly in the coming days to discuss the service.

His comments follow a meeting between the HSE and paramedics last week where the plan was proposed.

Deputy Naughten told Midlands 103 that the suggestion is ill thought out and premature.

"A proposal is on the table to reduce the A&E hours from 24/7 to 57 hours a week," he said.

"Now that is totally unacceptable, it's irresponsible for the HSE to be considering such a proposal, because it is without doubt it would put lives at risk."
