Reilly launching Govt health initiative
A major new health initiative is being launched by the Government today.
The Government is holding a consultation day with public health professionals, academics and community groups to come up with a long-term vision for the health and well being of Irish people.
Health Minister Dr James Reilly will lead proceedings at today's event which the Department of Health said will lead to a new public health policy where people live healthier and more fulfilling lives.
Minister Reilly said: "It is a sobering thought that two thirds of chronic disease could be prevented if people just changed their lifestyles."
The conference is likely to deal with other issues including childhood obesity, alcohol and the links between poverty and ill health.
Some key figures from the industry will also address those gathered, including the European Regional Director from the World Health Organisation and the North's Chief Medical Officer.
