HSE launches new anti-smoking campaign

New figures published by the HSE show that one in every two smokers in Ireland die from tobacco related illnesses.

The HSE is launching a new campaign today, aimed at helping smokers quit the habit.

A new website - www.quit.ie - and a facebook page offer useful tips on howsmokers can kick the habit.

Dr. Fenton Howell, Director of Public Health with the HSE, said Ireland still has about a million smokers, but on the positive side, there are also hundreds of thousands who have managed to successfully quit.

"What we want to do is encourage everybody to quit as soon as they can," he said.
