Gardaí name victim of fatal assault in Co Monaghan

Gardaí in Carrickmacross in Co. Monaghan have named the victim of a vicious assault in the town last night.

The victim has been named locally as Gavin O'Connor, Ballynaclose, Kilmainhamwood, on the Cavan, Meath border.

Gardaí are continuing to question a man in his late teens in connection with the assault which occurred at Lisdoonan, in Carrickmacross at around 5am yesterday morning.

The man was arrested yesterday and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
