Pilgrims set off on charity walk

Funds to feed Dublin’s most vulnerable will be collected during a charity walk today.

The plight of homelessness will be highlighted by ten pilgrims during the eighth annual walk in aid of the Capuchin Day Centre.

The centre provides 2,100 hot dinners, 1,000 food parcels, and 900 breakfasts or lunches each week – costing €50,000 a month.

Today volunteers and staff are relying on the kindness of others for drinks, snacks and encouragement as they make their way from Glendalough to Dublin.

Staff member Paddy Pender said the purpose of the walk is to raise awareness about the problem of homelessness in Ireland.

The group will leave the Sally Gap at 1pm and arrive at the Capuchin Friary, Church Street, Dublin, for a Gospel Mass at 7pm.
