Poll gives FG its highest rating in seven years

A Red C poll in today's Sunday Business Post gives Fine Gael its highest rating since this series of polls began in 2004.

Enda Kenny's party has seen a surge in support, with 41% saying they would give them their first preference vote if an election were held.

Labour support is also up, at 19%.

Fianna Fáil is unchanged on 16%, as is Sinn Féin on 11%.

Independents and others are down three points, to 13%.

The poll was taken among 1,000 voters on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during and just after President Obama's visit.

Political editor with the Sunday Business Post Pat Leahy said: "I suppose the central question in competitive politics at present is, how long will the Government's honeymoon last…It shows no sign of abating at present."
