Taoiseach refuses protesters' request to reinstate Sean Quinn

Protestors concerned about the future of the Quinn Group have handed a letter to the Taoiseach this afternoon.

The 100 strong group heckled as Enda Kenny arrived at a conference in Co Leitrim earlier.

They are looking for assurances about their jobs after Quinn was handed over to new owners Anglo Irish Bank and Liberty Mutual yesterday.

The letter says that removing Sean Quinn from a "successful" business was "deplorable".

Yesterday, Quinn Insurance reported losses of €900m for the past two years , and announced its intention to apply to the Insurance Compensation Fund for €600m.

"The workers were looking for an assurance that Sean Quinn would be put back in charge of the [Quinn] group," said Mr Kenny.

"I can give no such assurance, obviously."
