The General Secretary of the Irish Postmasters Union has said he is not surprised that An Post says it needs to axe 2,000 jobs by 2015 as a result of the recession.

Brian McGann has said the move is understandable, given the current economic climate, and that An Post is as affected as any other company by the difficult trading conditions.

The IPU is holding its annual conference in Letterkenny, Co Donegal today.
