A man has been charged with attempted murder after a senior loyalist was stabbed at a Tesco supermarket in north Belfast.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after a senior loyalist was stabbed at a Tesco supermarket in north Belfast.

The suspect, aged 40, is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court later today.

Harry Stockman, aged 50, was knifed several times in front of stunned shoppers yesterday afternoon.

He underwent surgery last night.

He is a leading figure in the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and from the Shankill Road area.
