Two children hospitalised with cryptosporidium illness
There is concern over a local water supply network in Cork city after two children were hospitalised suffering from illness caused by the bug cryptosporidium..
The parasitic bug, which causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea, usually enters water systems via human and animal waste but can also be passed from person to person.
Both children, who attend the same school and live in the same area, have since been discharged from hospital.
An investigation into the source of the outbreak is underway.
