Support group calls for review of all pregnancy scanning procedures
A maternity care support group is today calling for a review of all pregnancy scanning procedures, not just for the early stages.
Krysia Lynch is the co-chairperson of the Association for Improvements in Maternity Services in Ireland has said that it is important for women to be able to put their faith in the system.
“We would certainly have many documented cases on our files of women that have complained bitterly about misdiagnoses that has resulted In a change in their care resulting in a Caesarean birth which was unnecessary due to the fact that the scans were misdiagnosed in middle and late pregnancy,” said Ms Lynch.
“We do have a good service in Ireland but the most important thing is that women feel they can trust the service and obviously an issue like the miscarriage misdiagnosis does shake that trust.”
