Three suspected armed robbers are being questioned after a raid on a jewellers.

A shot was fired during the attempted robbery at a shop on Mitchell Street, Nenagh, Co Tipperary, at about 11.15am. No one was hurt.

Two men who entered the shop left empty handed and got into a waiting car.

A garda spokesman said officers followed the suspect car and stopped it in Curraghduff, Upperchurch, on the Newport to Thurles road.

Three men in their 30s were arrested by gardai from Thurles and Newport.

All three are being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours.
