Miracle Meg beats odds

The parents of brave Megan Malone have been told that she no longer has cancer traces in her brain.

The three-year-old from Kilnamartyra in Co Cork flew to New York in early December with parents John and Sheila and her siblings for life-saving treatment in the New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital.

Megan was diagnosed in October with cancer in her brain and spine. Following an MRI last week, her doctors told her parents that she now has no evidence of cancer in her brain.

Her parents said in a statement on their website: “The main tumour is gone. We are in shock and just can’t believe it.”

There are also very strong indications that there is little or no tumour remaining in Megan’s spine.

Her parents added: “This result has completely blown our minds. It is more than we could have ever hoped for.”

A mystery donor paid the entire costs of Megan’s treatment in the United States by donating €300,000 to a fund last year.
