Gardaí 'can't cope' with current resources: GRA

The President of the Garda Representative Association claims gardaí will not be able to cope if the force is reduced to 13,000.

The President of the Garda Representative Association claims gardaí will not be able to cope if the force is reduced to 13,000.

Resources in the Force is one of the issues being highlighted at the Association's annual conference which gets underway in Co Mayo this evening.

The GRA said the was having serious difficulty coping with its workload.

President of the GRA Damien McCarthy said specialised units such as the Bureau of Fraud Investigation were struggling under current workloads.

"The manpower of that department is approximately 13 gardaí," he said. "They can’t cope with the level of work that's coming in."
